Join us for an event filled with practical knowledge on chronic and acute renal failure in dogs and cats.
RegisterVET EXPERT EXCELLENCE SUMMIT is the first event of its kind organized by VET EXPERT, entirely dedicated to the topic of acute and chronic kidney failure in dogs and cats.
We have invited veterinary doctors, distinguished specialists in nephrology, who will share their current knowledge and practical experience on this subject with participants.
We believe this will also be a valuable opportunity for specialists to exchange insights and experiences.
Prof. Quimby is now a faculty member at the Ohio State University. Her research continues to focus on chronic kidney disease in cats. Current research areas include the study of renal aging, telomere length and cellular senescence, novel treatment strategies and evidence-based supportive care strategies. She has an interest in clinical trials and feline clinical pharmacology which is aimed at improving supportive care and quality of life in cats with chronic kidney disease. Prof. Quimby has received the International Renal Interest Society (IRIS) Award and the AVMF/Winn Feline Foundation Research Award for her contributions to nephrology and feline medicine. In 2021 she was selected to serve on the IRIS board.
In 2014, she defended her doctoral dissertation on the physiology of the urinary system (“The effect of GnRH analogs on the contractility of the lower urinary tract in vitro”). Since then, she has been actively engaged in research on oxidative stress in extracorporeal circulation and kidney diseases, the microbiome in kidney diseases, and blood storage. From 2012 to 2015, she participated in the WroVasc scientific project, co-financed by the European Union, focusing on the evaluation of blood morphological elements in extracorporeal circulation systems and research on hemodialysis and ECMO heart-lung systems in animal models. Between 2017 and 2018, after completing the “Hemodialysis Academy” training organized by UC Davis in the USA, she obtained a certification in renal replacement therapies for companion animals. She has enhanced her knowledge and practical skills through numerous clinical internships at centers specializing in renal replacement therapies for companion animals (including LMU Munich, SpecVet Warsaw, and Tierspital Zurich) as well as in human nephrology (Medical University of Silesia in Wrocław). She consults patients and provides conservative and interventional nephrology and urology treatments (renal replacement therapies, diagnostic and therapeutic urological procedures, including SUB placement, ureteral stents, and biopsies).
She actively participates in numerous Polish and international conferences and training sessions on veterinary nephrology, urology, and renal replacement therapies. Additionally, she conducts specialized training for veterinarians in the field of veterinary nephrology and urology and is the author of numerous scientific publications and conference reports in these areas.
She has completed international internships and training in veterinary clinics in Italy, Cyprus, and the United Kingdom, focusing on cardiology, intensive care, and nephrology, including kidney hemodialysis under the supervision of Dr. Claudio Brovida, former president of WSAVA. She has participated in numerous scientific congresses in Poland and abroad, including eight times as a speaker. In 2018, she received an award for the best presentation at the III International Congress on Advances in Veterinary Sciences & Technics in Belgrade. She is the author or co-author of scientific papers listed in categories A and B of the Polish Ministry of Science and Higher Education (MNiSW) and has contributed chapters to scientific monographs. Her research interests focus on disorders of the cardio-renal axis. In her free time, she is passionate about traveling, exploring new places, and experiencing different cultures. Privately, she is the owner of two adopted cats and a dog.
